Anyway. Mom got me on June 1st, 2008, and I've been so happy here with her, as opposed to the family with the young, screaming child that was my original family. Funny, though. Since I've been with Mom, I haven't been afraid of kids. Mom thinks it's because she's running interference for me whenever we meet kids, telling them how to be gentle with me when the meet me, and not automatically try to pat me on the head.
Mom is concerned that I don't play very much with all the toys she's bought me. I don't know why I don't. Nothing much in the toy box catches my attention. My ball is good to kick around for about 30 seconds. I like to chew on a knotted rope made for dogs, and that can last a minute or two. One game we play is that Mom will put me in a sit in the hallway, and then hide a treat or two, then tell me to find it. She usually puts something in the toy box, but I always find it!
The picture below is of me a few days before Mom came to pick me up from my foster mom's house. Before Mom found me on the NVSR website, she swore she didn't want a blue merle because the blue eyes creeped her out! Silly Mom! Didn't seem to be problem for her once she saw me! BOL!
I am soooo happy in the home I have now! The only screaming children are the ones that belong to the neighbors, and they're not in my house chasing me around! Mom tells me I actually am reacting pretty well to the children in the neighborhood who come up to me calmly and let me sniff them before they reach out to touch me. It's even fun to be petted. And I get to meet a lot of dogs in my neighborhood. I didn't get much of a chance for that before, or at least not that I remember.
The day Mom came to meet me, I was in the same room, but hid under the coffee table until she started offering me treats. I'd take one or two, then got back under the table. After a while she had to use the bathroom. When she returned her friend Cindy and Susan, my foster mom, told her that I had come out from under the table and laid down on the rug outside the bathroom, at least until the door started to open again. For Mom that was the sign that I wanted her, too.
The big picture below is just after we got to my new home! Mom's friend and her son and her and I, all together! It was a little overwhelming, but it was fun too! Can't you tell by the grin on my face??
I have a mom who watches out for me now, and who protects me from what I'm really afraid of, and also challenges me to try new things. I'm not so shy any more, and actually choose to go up to some children when we're out walking. My human brother is gruff a lot of the time, but I can tell he really likes me.
I think life is a whole lot better than it was three years ago, when the only family I'd known had to get rid of me because their child scared me. I'm in much better home now, and love my family. And that's my Gotcha story!
